Karkala: The future of students from English medium Hosmaru government primary school hangs in balance as an English medium has not yet been introduced in the school.

A few years back, the state government came forward to start an English medium section in the government primary schools, English is being taught in most of the high schools in the Taluk limit. However, in the Hosamaru, government high school, English medium is still a dream.

In sixth standard, there are 19 students, and in the seventh standard, there are 18 students that are learning English language. After the seventh class, students have to go to private nearby schools, because English medium has been not yet started in Hosmaru high school.

If students desirous of continuing their studies in the same medium, they have to go to private schools or government schools in Bajagoli and Karkala. In private schools, parents have to pay a huge amount as donation for admission. Government schools are distant and parents will have to incur travel costs to send their children to these schools.

So the students of this particular school tend to discontinue their studies due to these problems. Students studying in Hosmaru govt primary English medium school in Idu village are economically poor.

Why is there no English medium in this school?

Idu is a naxal affected village. Government has implemented many developmental projects to improve facilities in this particular village.

As per the records, in this current year there are 65 students in eighth standard, 58 in ninth and 44 in 10th. Besides, construction of a building under National education ministry scheme in the school premises has been abruptly stopped.

There are enough places to extend the school building and the public demanding that the government should provide the necessary materials and appoint teachers for the English medium.
