Udupi: Thunder-lightning accompanied by heavy rains in the night of Saturday May 9  has caused severe damage in the district.

Heavy rains were reported from Karkala taluk damaging properties and houses in places such as Padumane, Hermunde and Marne among others. Places in the district such as Brahmavar, Kota, Malpe and Kaup too were shrouded with heavy rains.

Meanwhile, places such as Kundapur, Siddapur, Hosangadi, Kollur, and Koteshwara received only a moderate rainfall.
