Udupi: Due to continuous rains in the district from the past two days, the district administration declared holiday for all schools and colleges on Monday, July 20.

On Sunday, the DC informed the media that the decision to declare a holiday to the educational institutions has been taken by the respective Tashildars.

The roads in low lying areas are said to have been flooded with the rain water and hence cannot be seen. The rivers in the district have been overflowing. Several houses have collapsed and trees have been uprooted.

However the situation turned tense when there was a landslide behind the INOX Theater at Manipal. Owing to this, the shows were cancelled and this created a situation panic among the public.

In Kundapur and Karkala most of the rivers are overflowing and people living near the river have been asked to shift either to their relative’s houses or to the nearby schools standing on higher ground.
