Udupi: The counting of GP elections began at 8 am under tight security at the St. Sicily’s school, Udupi today. At Kundapura counting will be at Bandarkars College and in Karkala GCS English medium high school.

Counting is beng done to determine the winners of 2,398 seats in 155 Gram Panchayats across three taluks. Udupi district has 2,082 candidates in Udupi taluk, 1,712 candidates in Kundapur taluk and 965 candidates in Karkala taluk.
The future of the 4,759 candidates will be decided by evening. However 272 candidates have been elected unopposed for Gram Panchayats in the district.
Schools in which counting is underway have been given two days of holidays. The DC has issued a prohibitory orders around the counting centers and mobile phones have been banned in the counting centers.
Security measures have been undertaken by the police department. The DC has also imposed a ban on victory celebrations.
