Udupi: Gandhi’s thoughts can be preserved only through practice, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, the Minister for Urban Development.

He was speaking on Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th birth anniversary celebrations. On the occasion he was also inaugurated ‘Bharath Swachatha Abhiyan’, an initiative of the Prime Minister of India.
All staff from District Administration and City Municipal Corporation participated in the drive, Sorake said Mahatma and his ideologies are inspirational worldwide. His life style was characterized by truth, peace and nonviolence. He proved that everything is possible with above three ideals.
Sorake added that existence of the present India is because of Mahatma. His reforms and sacrifices such as untouchability, Sathyagraha and Padyatra and will be remembered forever in the history of India.
Emphasizing the cleanliness drive launched on the occasion, the minister said that Gandhi was always particular about hygiene. He supported the idea of clean surroundings and dirt free environment.
He added that the cleanliness drive will be a best tribute to Ganghiji and it is high time that public should try to keep their surroundings clean and tidy.
He added that the cleanliness campaign should be a continuous task and it should not be limited only for a day, he added.
MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj said he himself will take it as his responsibility and clean the government office once in a week.
