Udupi : Four members of a family from Padubelle near Shirva allegedly committed suicide by consuming cyanide during wee hours of Thursday.

The deceased are Shanker Acharya (50), his wife Nirmala Acharya (44), and daughters Shruthi (23) and Shreya (22).

Shankar Acharya was running a jewellery shop at Padubelle and has been living in the same area over the last 30 years. The neighbours found it suspicious when the Acharya family did not venture out of the house on Thursday morning. When their continuous efforts to know what had gone wrong with the family met failure, the neighbours broke open the door and found the four dead inside the house.

The exact reason for the suicide is not known. The Shirva Police have registered the case. The bodies have been sent for post mortem and further investigation is on.
