Karkala: A final year student of Bhuvanendra college was allegedly assaulted by five lecturers on Friday, March 18.

Anush Hegde from Tellaru who was assaulted has been admitted to taluk government hospital.

Manjunath Kotiyan, Nanda Kishore, Mahesh Shetty, Ramadas Shetty and Harishchandra are the lecturers who are accused of assaulting the student.

It is learnt that the five lecturers had reportedly called the student to staff room and advised him to mend his ways.

Lecturer Manjunath Kotian had asked Anush and his friend Suhas to surrender their mobile phones for using the phone on campus and further conversing loudly over the mobile. However, it was learnt that Anush Hegde had asked Suhas not to surrender the phone to lecturer.

Anush was also time and again asked by the lecturers to maintain decorum by wearing college uniform. But, Anush continued to match his uniform shirt with pair of jeans, which had irked the lecturers.

Police sources said that Anush and Suhas were warned for shortage of attendance as well.

The lecturer who was angry with Anush’s behaviour, had hence beaten him up.

In the complaint the student has alleged that other four lecturers joined Manjunath Kotian and assaulted him.

Police have visited the spot and have collected information in this regard.

When the incident went public, few Bajrang Dal activists stood by the student.

The matter is expected to come to an end with the intervention of Bajrang dal leader Mahesh Bailoor.
