Udupi: The district witnessed the first ever Green protocol wedding held at Uchila near here on Sunday, September 3, 2017.
The bridegroom Sudhakar, the member of Navachethana Yuvaka Mandala Kattegudde and bride Harinakshi’s wedding held at Smt. Tumbe Karkera Hall has become a model for future wedding receptions in the district for sure.
The wedding reception came across to be a seamless blend of the Swacch Udupi mission and promotion of Green protocol wedding. The entire wedding was supervised by Dinakar Babu, Udupi Zilla Panchayat President.
At present, serving water and food on use and throw glasses and plates have been perceived as a convenient option at places where food is served to large number of people. This has become a norm mainly because of non-availability of manpower and also due to convenience factor.
However, keeping aside all the impediments, on Sunday, the people who attended the wedding were served beverages and water in steel glasses and steel plates were used to serve food. All in all, not a bit of plastic waste was generated at the wedding venue!
Excellent Caterers, Ambagilu proprietor Deekshith Shetty played a vital role in doing way with plastic utensils at the wedding venue. Even the wedding hall was decorated with natural flowers, keeping away plastic and thermocol embellishments.
An elated Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, who came to know about a wedding of this kind had sent two PDOs to know if such a wedding was being held and on confirmation about a Green protocol wedding, the DC herself attended the wedding at Uchila and congratulated the couple.
The DC told the reporters that such weddings are need of the hour, especially in a place like Udupi, which is striving very hard to become a ‘plastic-free’ and ‘garbage free’ region by October 2, 2018.
“Various youth associations had received training in the scientific solid and liquid waste management. Now they should become soldiers in the Swacch Udupi Mission,” she said adding that the crusaders of the campaign will be honoured with certificates.
