Udupi: A news on social networking platform about religious conversion of four people from the same family living in Kaup area sent shock waves in the region, following which community leaders urged police to look into the matter to dispel any fears of communal tensions in the area.
A Whatsapp message of a photograph which had come in a vernacular language newspaper about a particular Bhaskar shetty, his wife Revathi and two kids wanting to change their names went viral. As per the details in the photo clip, Bhaskar Shetty living at Kombugudda in Kaup premises wanted to change his name to Akbar Ali.
Close on heels of this message going viral, it is learnt that Bunt community heads urged local police to look into the matter. Interestingly, the preliminary probe revealed that no such person lived at the address mentioned in the classified.
Sources say that this could be an attempt to disturb peace in the region which has already been scarred by recent communal clashes at Kalladka and surrounding regions as also the recent hosting of Iftar party by Pejwar Swamiji at the Mutt premises which right wing groups have objected to.
