Udupi: District soldiers union held a demonstration at the War memorial against unequal pension to ex-servicemen here on Sunday.

There is a 40% difference in pension given to the servicemen who have retired 20 years ago and those who have retired recently, it has been said.

OROP envisages a uniform pension for the defence personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement. They demanded an equal pension to all and submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner.

Extending support to those ex servicemen in Delhi who are protesting from the last 35 days, senior servicemen from Udupi district protested here and addressed the gathering.

Chandrashekhar Suvarna, President of the co-operative association led the protest.

Senior Commander Jerome Castelino, Colonel Rodrigues, Union ex-president Colonel Ramachandra Rao, Gilbert Braganza and Vice-president Ganapayya Sherigar were present.
