Udupi: A car full of drunken students hit a scooter at high speed in Kolalgiri Cross Road at Uppoor on Monday, January 2. The accident took place at night when a baker was returning home after closing his shop down.

Appu Chala Bangera (57) was riding his scooter back home when a white Maruti Suzuki Ritz car bearing the number ‘KA 19 MD 1187’ hit Appu’s scooter leaving him mortally wounded. The car was driven by a drunk Manipal student accompanied by three of friends. The car fell on it’s side after the accident but the students managed to get out safely and unhurt.

Not only did the students kill Appu in the accident while driving under heavy influence of alcohol, they also held arguments with the onlookers and behaved rudely with them.

Appu Chala Bangera owned ‘Dear Bakery’ at Kemmannu Cross Road and had been running it for decades.
