Kaup: The Congress managed to win over the newly formed Kaup Town Municipal Council (TMC) polls with a difference of just one ward. While the Congress won 12 seats, BJP bagged 11 seats out of the total 23 seats.

The counting for the same was held in Taluk Panchayat office premises on Wednesday April 27.

While the Congress and the BJP remained with 11 wards each out of 23 wards, with the counting of last one ward Ahmed Moholla, Congress candidate Leela trounced BJP’s Ratna and bagged the TMC.

The polling for the 23 wards of the TMC, comprising Kaup, Uliyargoli and Mallar, was held on April 24, and recorded a voter turnout of 75 percent.

As many as 58 candidates – 23 from Congress, 23 from BJP, 5 from JD(S), 4 from SDPI and 3 Independents – were in the fray.

The Kaup TMC was a major prestige issue for the Congress and the party had gone all guns blazing to win over it because Kaup Assembly constituency is represented by urban development minister and district in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake.

However, speaking to reporters here, Sorake said that the party will focus on development of the Kaup region like never before.

Speaking about possibilities of Kaup being upgraded as taluk, Sorake said that as of now there is a demand to make Brahmavar into a taluk and there are no demands for Kaup taluk.
