Udupi: A 27-year old man died on the spot and several persons were grievously injured after a speeding express bus collided with a mini bus here on Udayavara National Highway on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Nandalike (27) who works as an electrician.

According to the reports, a group of about 25 persons from Belman were on a trip to Kemmannu when the accident took place. Meanwhile, an express bus, in a bid to overtake another bus, collided with the mini bus. One person died on the spot, others were rushed to the hospital.

As a result, the traffic on the highway came to a halt. Circle inspector Srikanth, PSI Madhu, traffic Sub Inspector came to the spot and cleared the traffic.

Udupi district minister in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake also arrived at the spot and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
