Udupi: As the historic moment of the chief pontiff of Pejawar Math Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji ascending the Paryaya Peetha for a record fifth time is around the corner, a grand procession on Monday January 4, marked the Pura Pravesha of the 84-year-old and his junior Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji.
The colourful comprising with around 3,000 students and 2,000 artistes along with followers began from Jodukatte and was taken out to Car Street via Court Road, KM Marg and Kanakadasa Road.
Urban Development and Udupi District In-Charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, Pradeeep Kalkura and Harikrishna Punarooru were present among others.
This will be followed by a stage ceremony where the road Kalsanka to Vadiraja road will be named after him.
Vishweshwa Teertha Swami will be ascending the paryaya on January 18 for the fifth time. No seer of the Ashta Mutts (Eight mutts) of Udupi has ascended the Paryaya Peetha five times, since the biennial Paryaya system was introduced in 1522 A.D.
The Paryaya will be in the month of January next year. The 84-year-old Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swami ascended the peetha in the year 1952, 1968, 1984 and 2000.
