CMC meeting held to discuss burning issues in the district

Udupi: The general body meeting of the Udupi City Municipal Council was held on Monday January 12, to discuss  burning  issues facing  the district.

Malpe to Agumbe National Highway:

“The people who will lose land in the widening process of Malpe to Agumbe NH will be given maximum compensation”, assured MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.

While addressing the special meet, the MLA said that as the NH comes under central government,  we will send a proposal requesting the government to provide the best compensation possible to the ones who lose their land during the road widening.

The people in the Parkala area will lose most of their land as the main road is very narrow, the compensation package will be decided once the survey is over; however central government will not provide special rate for Parkala area alone, the MLA asserted.

It was learnt that the amount CMC had for the compensation earlier will be deposited to assistant commissioner’s account as per the direction from DC. Srikant Rao, commissioner however said that once CMC hands over the amount to assistant commissioner’s account, it will be used for some other development works and CMC has no right to question them.

JnNURM buses in the city:

With regards to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) buses to start in the city, the MLA said that the 30 new buses will run within 20 kilometers in the city, will be low floored, which will help the aged people to climb easily and students will be given best concession rates.

“The government is trying to build a bus stand at DDPI office as well and is planning to shift the existing DDPI office to to the  board high school campus”, he added.

To facilitate local travel,  Bannanje will henceforth be a stop for the long-run buses. BJP member M R Pai said that parking for other vehicles should also be considered.
