Udupi: The exact cause of Hussainabba’s death on May 30, is still shrouded in mystery as the post-mortem and the forensic reports are still awaited.
Briefing the media about the developments in the case on June 4, Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxman Nibargi said that only after receiving the reports, the exact cause of the death could be ascertained.
It may be recalled that on May 30, Bajrang Dal activists waylaid the vehicle allegedly used by Hussainabba and two others for transporting cattle illegally near Perdoor. It came to light later that Hiriadka Police were also working hand-in-glove with the activists for the raid. Hussainabba reportedly was assaulted by the activists and handed over to the police. As the police found that Hussainabba had died on the way to the police station, they dumped his body one kilometer away from the spot of the raid. Later, they also registered a case of unnatural death due to cardiac arrest at the police station to avoid suspicion.
Nimbargi also informed that the cops accused in the case have been remanded to 14-days judicial custody in Karwar jail. A total of 10 persons, including three cops, have been arrested so far for their involvement in the case.
Clearing the doubts about the claims that vehicle used for cattle transport did not have a number plate. He said that the number plate was broken by the Bajrang Dal activists who had attacked the vehicle.
Hussainabba and his accomplices were indeed transporting cattle without permission. However, according to Nimbargi, they may not have been stolen cattle. Two of the cows found on the vehicle later died. The two persons who were with Hussainabba during the attack are still untraceable. “Search is on to find them,” said the SP.
Nimbargi also said that the case was being handled by Karkala ASP Rishikesh and Manipal Inspector Thimmippa Naik. So far the police have registered three cases pertaining to the matter i.e., illegal transport of cattle, finding of Hussainabba’s dead body by a local named Shekar, and Hussainabba’s brother Mohammed Ismail’s allegations of murder by Bajrang Dal activists.
