Udupi: The people of the Udupi got a chance to watch a world class escape art by Dean Gunnarson at the Christian High School Ground here on Saturday, February 21. Gunnarson is an international award winning artist from Canada.
The ‘Buried Alive’ escape act will be performed for 24 hours. Professor Shankar and Shankar Junior, magicians of the Gili Gili Magic Troupe, organized the event.

Gunnarson was buried in a six feet depth burial ground at 6 p.m on Saturday. After 24 hours (tomorrow 6 pm) he will be escaped from breathtaking escape art. He was handcuffed and put in a chained coffin and buried in an iron box weighed 300 kilograms which was also tied with three chains.
The challenging artist is known for his daring escapes performance.
The burial box included two ventilation pipes to control the air flow and temperature, two fans and an oxygen cylinder. There are 2 cameras, which will monitor him 24 hours live, including a Canadian television channel and the other for observation.
He is a trained artist and will survive without food, water and mobile phone for the next 24 hours.
Gunnarson had an 11 member team, who helped him in the escape act here. While sharing there opinion the team including the Canadian camara man said that “they are enjoying every bit of it”. “We love India and it is an opportunity to experience the excitement of our loved once”.
They added that more and any country we expect more support from Indians especially Udupi people.
Dean believes in having hope till the last breath.
Dean Gunnarson had arrived to Udupi on February 17. He earlier was felicitated by Paryaya Shri Vidyawallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math for performing an amusing escape act, at Rajangana.
In the act his hands and neck were tied with a chain, which was latched with three locks. But within minutes, Mr. Gunnarson wriggled out of the chains, to the audience’s applause.
They have also organised a road show from Jodukatte trough Big Bazar to the service Bus-Stand.
