Udupi: Speaking after inaugurating the two-day national level seminar on ‘Yakrit Vikara’ organized by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatha College of Ayurveda Kuthpady Udyavar here on Friday,  Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader said that there is tremendous hope for Ayurveda in the country, we should understand the value of it.

The minister said “prevention is better than cure, Ayurveda gives importance to prevention. Minister called upon the students to not only undertake study of Ayurveda but to practice it. He insisted that Ayurvedic doctors should have confidence in their profession, then they can automatically attract patients. The patients too would develop confidence in both the doctors and the Ayurvedic system of medicine”. The minister added ayurveda should be encouraged by all means.

He added that a team from AYUSH ministry from center will visit the State on December 6. The government would take initiatives to lay down the demands and try to fulfill it.

He said the government is only bothered about the patients and has least concern over the egoistic confrontations between the ayurvedic and allopathic doctors. The harmonization in the work between allopathic doctors and ayurvedic doctors is more important to help society.

‘Yakrit Vikara’ is a seminar meant to provide an  in-depth study of a set of diseases involving abnormal functions related to the liver.

M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, said that the country needs more Ayurvedic research centres. Of the 24,800 articles on Allopathic research published, only 0.8 per cent was from India, he lamented.
