
Udupi: In the wake of a nationwide protests and demonstrations demanding strict action against the perpetrators of crimes against women and justice to the victims, The District Muslim Okkoota (R) along with the Karnataka Dalita Sangarsha Samithi Maha Okkoota, Catholic Sabha, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, International Christian Federations Association, CITU and Dalita Swabhimani Horata Committee will organise a public meeting on April 24, at Chitaranjan Circle at 7.30 PM.
Speaking to the media during the press meet, Abdul Azim Udyavara, convener of the protest committee said that the atrocities on women have seen an increase in the country which is of great concern. “Many horrific incidents of atrocities on women such as the rape and murder case in Kathua of Jammu and Kashmir and the rape in Unnao of Uttar Pradesh are increasing day by day. We all strongly condemn these crimes in the country.”
He advocated the need to punish the culprits, whoever they may be and said that with this aim, various associations of the Udupi district would conduct a silent procession with burning the candles from Bhujanga Park, Ajjarkad here at 6.30 PM.
During the public meeting at Chitaranjan Circle, social activist, multi language actor Prakash Rai, Dalit forum State Leader Mavalli Shankar, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike State Secretary K L Ashok, Muslim Okkoota State President Mohammed Yasin Malpe, Koraga Development Committee President Susheela Naada, journalist Sabhiya Fatima, Christian Priest Fr. William Martis, Dalit leaders Sundar Master and Shymajraj Birthi, thinker G Rajshekar, CITU District President T Vishwanath Rai and others will be present.
Yaseen Malpe, G Rajshekar, Sunder Master, Adbul Rehman, Prashanth Jathanna and others were present at the meet.
