Udupi: In a break-through in the Akshatha murder case two youths were arrested by the Udupi district police on Friday June 19.

The youths arrested have been identified as Sunil (19) who has completed ITI in Byndoor and Akshay (19) a PU student in the local college.
Addressing a press meet with regards to the case on Saturday, IG – Amrut Pal said that the two accused boys tried to sexually assault Akshatha, who regularly walked home from college through an isolated acacia plantation.
The duo spotted her walking towards the lonely road; they then chased her and pulled her deep in to the forest next to the plantation. They tried to sexually assault her, however when Akshatha resisted the duo strangled her to death with her duppatta, the police added.
Police to implement ‘School Beat’
Following the incident, Pal added that the department will start a ‘School Beat’ soon. The police officials will go on rounds nearby school and college areas to ensure the security of the students.
District Police Department awarded
The Director General of Police declared an award of 3 lakhs to district police department for the swift response to this particular case.
