Actor Rakshith Shetty joins in the fun at ‘Kesrad Onji Dina’

Udupi: The weekend was joyful for the people of Alevoor village, as they attended the ‘Kesrad Onji Dina’ (a day in slushy waters) programme at Doddamane fields here on Sunday, July 12.

The traditional games were officially inaugurated by District Minister-in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake. Following this, he addressed the public, and said that ‘Kesaru Ghade’ is an important game in our community. It makes us experience the essence of this earth”, and added that It strengthens the bond between humans and nature.

On the occasion, different games such as 100 metre running race, sack race, backward running race and human pyramid formation to break an earthen pot etc. were organized.

Actor Rakshith Shetty actor-director of ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’, enhanced the joy at the occasion. Belonging to Alevoor, he danced with his friends and fans in the slushy waters. He said the rural folk games should be encouraged as it is our culture and tradition. “Preserving the Tulunadu tradition is the responsibility of everyone”, the energetic director added.

People from nearby villages participated in the games. Villagers also invited their dear and near one’s from other cities to enjoy the day. The youth in the village were enthusiastic about the games.At the end of the day, around 500 people gathered around and enjoyed a traditional meal of ‘ganji’, ‘hurali (horsegram) saaru’, ‘chutney’, jackfruit curry and pickle.
