Udupi: The recent quadruple murder case at the police station in Malpe, Udupi, sees the appointment of Special Public Prosecutor Shivaprasad Alva, who has previously served as the senior law officer in the division of Mangalore.

The order, dated January 9th by the Under Secretary to the Government, states that the officer will now represent the government before the magistrate court and participate in all district sessions related to the case.

This means the officer will have to appear before two courts to oversee the entire proceedings of the quadruple murder case. The order is a response to multiple requests from the victims’ families to the state government, as well as the chief minister and home minister of the state.

The requests were made by Mohammed Noor, who, having lost four family members, demanded a faster trial in the entire case to receive justice. Noor further urged the home department of the state to consider the case as special.

He thanked the officer for his immediate action against the crime, saying, “We are thankful to Udupi SP Dr. Arun K and his team for arresting the accused within 52 hours of the crime. We also thank the chief minister, home minister, district minister, MLAs, and leaders of various political parties and organizations for being with our family.”

This makes it clear that the family demands proper justice and even expects severe punishment for the accused for his actions against the victim.

The case concerns the murder of four victims by an executive of the cabin crew of Air India Express that took place within the limits of the Malpe police station. The accused was identified as Pravenn Arun Chowgule, a 39-year-old, who was said to have murdered his colleague Ainaz, along with her mother Haseena and two siblings, Ainaz and Afnan, while injuring their grandmother Hajeera at their home in Thirupathi layout at Ashwalkatte.

The incident was said to have taken place on November 12, 2023, with investigations ongoing to this date. This was followed by a visit to the grieving family by the deputy chairman of the NRI forum of the government of Karnataka with a team of Congress party leaders who extended their condolences to the family.

But little can be done to wipe the tears of a family now a victim of such a heinous murder.

This makes it only just that the accused, having been arrested, was taken to the Kudachi police station in the district of Belagavi two days later, on November 14, 2023.

A request for bail made on December 30 was rejected by the second additional Udupi district and sessions court.
