41st Junior National Badminton Championship from December 11 to 17

Udupi: Udupi District Badminton Association, Udupi in association with Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports will organise 41st Junior National Badminton Championship – 2016 at District Indoor Stadium, Ajjarkad, Udupi and Marina Sports Complex, Manipal from 11th December to 17th December, 2016.
Addressing mediapersons at Udupi, K. Raghupathy Bhat general Secretary of Udupi District Badminton Association said, “Udupi District Badminton Association came into existence in the year 2008. We have a dynamic and dedicated team which is absolutely passionate about badminton. It is the passion and dedication which has led Udupi District Badminton Association to conduct a few prestigious tournaments namely State Ranking tournaments, State Championships and the prestigious National Ranking Tournaments in Udupi”.

“The hard work and dedication by Udupi Badminton Association has been rewarded by the Badminton Association of India and the Karnataka Badminton Association by allotting the most prestigious and an important event called Junior National Badminton Championship for Under-17 and Under-19 Boys and Girls to Udupi district from 11th December to 17th December, 2016 in which about 700 players from all over India are likely to participate. This event is also going to be telecast live on National Television,” he added.

This is the first time that a District Headquarter is hosting such a big event called the National Badminton Championship at such a large scale. What a proud moment for all of us to cherish. The total cost of hosting such a mega event is above Rs. 120 lakhs. Udupi District Badminton Association would need the patronage of all sports lovers to make this mega event a grand success, he said.

Bhat said that the total prize money would be Rs. 6 lakhs. National and International players will participate in the tournament. An association has been already which Pramod Madhwaraj Minster of State for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment and Dr. H. S. Ballal Pro Chancellor, Manipal University will be the President. Dr. Vinod Nayak, Manipal University, Manipal will be the Working President and K. Raghupathy Bhat, ex-MLA will be the General Secretary. Sohael Amin and Arun N. Sherigar will be Secretaries and Y. Sudheer Kumar Hon. Treasurer.

The championship tournament will be inaugurated at Ajjarkad Indoor Stadium, Udupi on December 12 at 5 pm. Prior to the inauguration, a grand procession will be held from Board High School, near Service Bus Stand at 4.30 pm which Dr. Mohan Alva of Alva Educational Foundation will be a part of.
