Karwar: Honnavar Police have seized two container lorries that were reported to be illegally transporting rice amountung to 500 quintals from Akki Aluru of Haveri District towards Mangaluru on Monday November 22 in Uttara Kannada (UK) District.

The police held accused along with the vehicle at Aarohalli National Highway 69 in Honnavar Taluk of the UK District. It is suspected that the seized rice is the ration rice. Two lorries filled with 500 quintals of rice have been inspected by both the Honnavar Taluk Tahasildar and Food Inspector.

The confiscated rice is stored in a warehouse at Karki warehouse. Police suspect that there is a huge network at work which illegal transports ration rice. Honnavara police has begun investigation. Suspicion is substantial because the rice was carried in huge containers as if to conceal it from being exposed.
