Bengaluru: Zerodha chief Kamath in a series of tweets said, “There’s a new scam in the name of FedEx, Blue Dart, and other courier companies that you need to be aware of. A colleague got a call from a person claiming to be from FedEx saying that a parcel had been confiscated by the police because drugs were found in it.”
He further shared that the victim also received an official notice from the crooks and even had a video call from someone claiming to be from the police. The fraudsters went as far as providing bank account details to transfer funds in order to release the package.
“Since the fake police had his Aadhaar number, this made the entire ordeal more convincing. This person panicked and transferred the money immediately,” added Kamath.
When faced with such situations, Kamath advised, “The best thing to do is to say, ‘I will get my lawyer to speak to you.'”
He emphasized that most fraudsters target individuals who panic and react impulsively. Slowing down and taking time before responding is crucial, he added.
