Mangaluru: A video of a youth getting beaten up by a group of students at a mall in the city, went viral on social media on Wednesday, September 25.

Sources identified the victim of the assault as 25-year-old Manjunath from Bantwal.

In the video, it can be seen that Manjunath claims that this is a “Hindu nation”, enraging a group of students, who are then seen daring the youth to repeat his words. When he repeats the words, the students start thrashing him.

He can also be heard uttering the word “Muslim”, however, it is unclear what he was trying to tell the attackers.

As soon as the video went viral on social media, Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha asked the media and the public not to sensationalise the matter, saying that it is an isolated incident. Harsha also informed that two persons including a minor have been detained for questioning, in this regard.
