Youth must be encouraged to join Army: Capt Karnik

Moodbidri:  There is a possibility that more and more youngsters from the state would join the Army if rural youth are  sensitized on the issue as well as the benefits of joining an army.

With decreasing number of people joining army from the state, the posts reserved for the state are  going to  other states, said MLC  and Chief whip  of Opposition in the Legislative Council Capt. Ganesh Karnik.

He was speaking after inaugurating an informative camp organised at the Samaja Mandir here on Sunday July 20  to   disseminate information on the  army recruitment rally to be held in Moodbidri from August 5 to 12. The programme was organised by the Ex-Servicemen’s Forum of Moodbidri.

Continuing, Capt Karnik said   many parents hesitate to  encourage their children to join the army.” But, one should not forget that serving the country is a matter of great honour,” he added.

Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu said  army helps an individual to lead a disciplined life.

Ex-serviceman Prof. Cherian, MR Jain, Recruitment officer of Venoor SDM ITI  Gilbert  Briganza, President of  Ex-Servicemen’s Forum, Udupi were the resource persons.

The participants were enlightened on various aspects pertaining to army recruitment and the necessary certificates.

Yuvaraj Jain, President of Excellent PU College, Kallabettu was the chief guest. Ramachandra Nayak, President of the Moodbidri Ex-Servicemen’s Forum. Vijay Fernandes, General Secretary, Dennis, Director and others were present.
