Kasargod: A mentally ill youth has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of an eight year old boy near Periya Kaliyath here on July 9. Vijayan(30), allegedly stabbed Mohammed Fahad, a class three student, who was heading to Kaliyath government high school along with his sister.Soon after Vijayan attacked the boy with a knife, he was caught by the locals and beaten up while he made an attempt to escape from the spot. The injured boy died on the spot. The culprit was later handed over to the Bekal police by the locals.

The deceased Mohammed Fahad is the son of Abbas and Ayesha, residents of Periya. A case has been registered at Bekal police station in this regard.
