Kasargod: A 27-year-old youth drowned while fishing in Shiriya River near Kumble on September 7.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Ali, originally a resident of Puttur, currently residing at Anangoor in Kasargod.

Muhammad Ali had gone fishing along with two of his friends. When they tried to pull the catch, unfortunately the boat toppled and the trio fell into river.

However, two managed to swim to safety where as Muhammad Ali drowned after his friends failed in their rescue bid.
The incident took place in the river opposite to Kumble Coastal police station this afternoon.

On receipt of information, coastal police station personnel accompanied by few locals managed to fish out the body from the river and rushed to a hospital. Doctors at the District Co-operative Hospital declared that he was brought dead.

Kumble Police have registered a case and the body has been kept at the mortuary of district hospital.
