Youngster killed in accident, causes rage among locals

Kasargod: A bike accident at Karandakad on Sunday March 16 claimed the life of a youngster when a government bus slammed into his bike killing him on the spot, enraged by the incident the locals disrupted the government bus depot.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Rajneesh, a resident of Nellikunje who was riding with his friend 24-year-old Sujith on the backseat. It is learnt that a Kerala bound government bus plying from Kasargod to Mangalore crashed into their bike.

Rajneesh died on the spot, while Sujith sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Mangalore.

After learning about the accident an agitated group of people barged into the bus depot and damaged the entire depot by pelting stones. They also damaged five government buses along with private ones; the police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

However the protestors were not in a disposition to give up the fight, they further blocked the road outside the bus depot and urged the arrest of the bus driver who had reportedly caused the accident.

The police also took five of the protestors into custody following to which the crowd gathered at the police station and staged a flash protest demanding the police to release the five persons.

Meanwhile, bus employees condemned the act of the protestors and refused to operate the buses. It is learnt that as a mark of protest, buses on Kasargod-Mangalore route would stay off the roads till Tuesday March 18 afternoon.

A case has been registered in Kasargod town police station.
