Mangaluru: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury visited Sundar Malekudiya, who was seriously injured after he was brutally attacked by a landlord in Belthangady last month.
Speaking to reporters Yechury said, “The family which attacked Sunder has high connections with political parties. A proper inquiry should be conducted without any bias.”
He also urged the government to ensure that medical expenses of Sundar are taken care of and that the accused person and his family should compensate the victim.
“We had passed the Tribal Forest Bill many years ago. But despite this, feudal landlordism continues. This is inhuman”, he added.
Condemning the brutal murder of rationalist MM Kalburgi, Yechury said that such crimes had taken place in the country in which national thinkers were targets of attack by extremists. This came after the murder of rationalist thinker from Maharashtra Narendra Dabholkar in 2013 and indicated that the ruling class in many states was patronising forces like this, he said.
Welcoming the alliance of secular forces in BBMP, Yechury told sources that both (Congress and JD-S) are democratic parties. “If anybody has a clear mandate, they could have come to power in BBMP. But there is no clear mandate, so it is good if secular parties come together”, he said.
