Mangaluru: KMC Hospital Mangaluru is organising a public awareness programme ahead of the “World Cancer Day” on Sunday, February 2.
Medical Superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal told reporters here on Tuesday, January 28, that the programme will be launched for the benefit of the people. “The programme will be attended by eminent doctors from the Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre at KMC Hospitals, who will be addressing all the queries related to cancer treatment and effective management. The programme would be an interactive session and will be open to the public, who are free to ask questions. This will be an insightful programme for the people, as it will demystify various myths about cancer and its treatment,” he said.
Consultant Medical Oncology Dr Sanyo D’Souza said, “Cancer is curable and early detection can be an added advantage, especially if it is detected in the first or second stage. Hence, there is a higher chance for cure and a decrease in the rate of recurrence. Most cancers, if detected an at an early stage, can be surgically removed and even chemotherapy be avoided at times.”
Consultant Surgical Oncology Dr Harish E informed that many cancers like breast, cervix, oral, lung, colon etc. can be detected with screenings which are easily accessible in peripheral health centres, hence the active participation of the general population and health education plays a key role. At KMC Hospitals, being a tertiary care centre, we have treated hundreds of cancer patients and may are cured of cancer and are leading a happy life, he added.
Consultant Hematology Dr Prashanth Bhat and Radiation Oncologist Dr P U Saxena were present.
