Mangaluru: Instead of getting angry with the patients of Alzheimer’s Disease, people should show love and affection towards them”, said Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Saturday, September 22.
He was addressing a gathering at the programme “World Alzheimer’s Day” organised by the People’s Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE) at Town Hall. He said, “Patience is very necessary while communicating with the elders. We should think that it is our responsibility to take care of senior citizens and we should never ignore them”, he said.
Former MLA J R Lobo said, ”Youngsters should know that they would become old too, one or the other day and own their responsibility towards the elders. If the younger generation is not ready to offer service to the elders or those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s, we will not be able to build a healthy society”, he said.
Dakshina Kannada District Health Officer (DHO) Ramakrishna Rao said, “We should show love and affection towards our parents and elders. If a person understands the problems of their parents and elders, they would never laugh at those who suffering from Alzheimer’s. Those taking care of the Alzheimer’s patients should avoid arguing or angry expressions”, he said.
Meanwhile, a primary health care toolkit book was released on the same occasion. PAGE Secretary Jeradine D’Souza, Joint Secretary Mohan Raj, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, senior civil judge Malanna Gowda Patil and Yenepoya University Registrar Dr. G Shree Kumar Menon among others were present.
