Bantwal : A lady social worker lost her life  in a tragic road mishap at Ramalkatte near Thumbay on Saturday May 17 afternoon.

The deceased is Philomena Coelho (42). The mishap took place when  Philomena had just stepped out of the  taxi to make way for other passengers at Ramalkatte. A speeding  police jeep  knocked down the taxi which moved forward throwing Philomena off guard. She was eventually run over by the jeep. Though she was immediately rushed to the hospital, she was brought dead.

Philomena was travelling in the taxi along with her eleven year old daughter towards Modankaup church  when the mishap took place.

Bantwal police have registered a case.

Philomena was active in Stree Shakti Groups and was  the ward leader in the parish.

She has left behind her husband who is employed in the Gulf and two children. Her funeral is scheduled at Infant Jesus Church, Modankaup on April 21, Wednesday  after her husband arrives from Gulf.
