Woman dies of ‘medical negligence’ at Gajria Hospital

Karkala : In a case of alleged medical negligence, a woman who was suffering from piles has  died at the Gajria Hospital  in Karkala.

The deceased is Nikshitha (31), wife of Umesh Salian of Bajagoli Mudaru. She was admitted to the hospital as an inpatient on March 17 at 11 am for treatment of piles.

It is learnt, Dr Sachidananda Prabhu   had said that she was anaemic and need to be given blood and accordingly was given blood on March 20. The relatives of Nikshitha say her condition was critical which she was given blood. When her condition deteriorated on March 22, she was   taken to the KS Hegde Hospital at Derlakatte on March 22 in the hospital ambulance. However on March 23 she died at around 3 pm.

It is now being alleged that the doctors at the Gajria Hospital did not advise to take the patient to a Mangalore hospital even when the condition of the patient was critical and had also not ensured that teh ambulance had oxygen facility.

 Umesh Salian, husband of Nikshitha has said her body was found bulged with a foul smell emanating and therefore they had to perform the last rites soon after

A case has been registered in the Karkala town police station under IPC Section 304(A).
