Belthangady: A woman ended life with her two sons by jumping into a pond at Nujilakki in Belalu here on Sunday January 3.

The deceased are Sunanda (40) and her sons Bharath (9) and Bhuvith (6).

It is learnt that Sunanda was battling depression and this might have triggered her to take such an extreme step.

Sunanda was married to Srinivas of Balamogaru, Puttur about 10 years ago. As schooling for children became difficult in Balamogaru, Sunanda shifted to her brother Sunder Malekudiya’s house in Belalu three years ago. Her husband used to visit her at Sunder’s house. Recently, she developed infection in her uterus. However, Sunanda thought she was suffering from cancer and was very upset, it is gathered.

As per the complaint lodged by Sunder at the local police station, on the fateful day, he had gone out owing to some work. His wife called him and said that Sunanda and her children were nowhere to be seen. While the family members launched a search, their bodies were found in a pond nearby.
