Moodabidri: The APMC elections here turned ugly when the victorious candidate assaulted the candidate who lost in the polls, at Masthikatte of Hosabettu on Saturday evening.

The incident took place during the victory celebration of Congress backed Chandrahas Sanil was going on.

Sanil was pitched against Valerian Cutinha backed by the BJP and a candidate from JD(S) for Kallamundkuru APMC constituency.

Celebrating Sanil’s victory, the Congress party workers shouted out slogans and also burst crackers. However, Valerian Cutinha objected to the same. An heated altercation broke out between Cutinha and the Congressmen and then it is said that the former was assaulted by the Congress workers.

Cutinha is recuperating at a local hospital. Cases have been registered against Sanil and three others.
