Speaking about the priorities of the department at present, the DG said that the main focus at this point in time is curbing the increasing drug menace in the state, especially in Bengaluru and Mangaluru.

“We have also launched extensive searches in Belagavi, Hubballi and Chitradurga too. Even though education institutions were shut during the Covid-19 lockdown, the supply of narcotic substances continued without any obstacles. We are stepping up our efforts in controlling the drug activities and the police force will be trained extensively in handling raids, investigations, recording statements from culprits etc, which will help us solve the cases in the Court systematically and effectively,” he said adding that his meeting in Mangaluru is especially to review the drug menace in Mangaluru, and surrounding areas.

“There is zero tolerance for drug menace in the state, and investigating officers have been given a free hand to handle any cases pertaining to narcotics,” he stated adding that the latest technology will be put to use to curb the drug menace in the state and the policemen will be trained in these technology.

He stated that many peddlers have already by nabbed, while many more will soon be put behind bars. He informed that the anti-drug drive will be held across the state, including Mangaluru to make people aware of the need to stay away from intoxicating substances.

Talking about how the law is equal for everyone, the top cop said that the police do not look at a case as ‘high-profile’ or ‘low-profile’.

“Couple of Sandalwood celebs have been arrested in connection to the crackdown on the drug mafia. The investigation is still on and more details will be revealed as the investigation progresses. Our aim is not only to nab the drug dealers but also to take action against them and stop people from consuming drugs. It would help if parents, NGOs, media, educational institutions join together in eradicating this drug menace,” he said adding that the department is also keeping an eye on foreigners overstaying in India even after their visa expires.

He said that despite the coronavirus pandemic, the police have put up a great show by performing their duties deligently.
