Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, 28-year-old Netravati, residing in a rented house with her husband in Haleangadi village near Mulky, reportedly resorted to self-immolation, allegedly due to the harassment she endured from her spouse.
Residents, responding to the distressed cries heard around 2 am on Tuesday, June 23, promptly alerted the police. Rushed to the hospital, Netravati succumbed to her injuries by daybreak. The grim episode unfolded as she had doused herself in kerosene before setting herself on fire.
Lalita, Netravati’s mother, filed a complaint with the Mulky police, accusing her son-in-law, Surendra Achary, a carpenter from Muroor in Karkala, of subjecting her daughter to harassment. Lalita asserted that the relentless mistreatment led her daughter to take her own life. The deceased leaves behind a three-year-old daughter.
Surendra Achary has been taken into custody by the police for interrogation, and an ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
