Wife’s murder: Mother-son duo gets life imprisonment

Mangaluru: A man and his mother were awarded life terms by the first additional district and sessions court in the city. The duo was accused of murdering the man’s wife with a sickle in 2011.

Raveesh (43) and Parvathi (60) are the accused who were sentenced to life term imprisonments.

The mother-son duo had killed Raveesh’s wife, Saraswathi on February 17, 2011 after a quarrel turned worse. Poovappa Nayaka, Saraswathi’s father had filed a complaint regarding the issue after which the accused were arrested immediately.

Four-year-old Rohitashwa, son of deceased Saraswathi was one of the important witnesses who helped in the conviction of the accused. Rohitashwa is now a 9-year-old. He was firm on his statement while the neighbours gave contradicting statements.

The court, finding the accused guilty of committing the crime, sentenced Raveesh and Parvathi to life imprisonments and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each. The duo will have to undergo three more months of imprisonment if failed to pay the fine.
