WhatsApp service from city police to guard residents’ houses from burglars

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru city police will soon a launch a facility where residents if leaving their house for a few days, can WhatsApp details to the police. The police will keep an eye on the house till the residents return.

The city police which recently launched a facility to enable citizens to report traffic offences through WhatsApp are expected to launch this new facility soon. The facility works in a simple way. Before leaving your house, send a message to the designated number with the complete address of the house and the number of days the house would be locked without inmates. Along with the message, you should send the GPS coordinates as attachment.

The officer in charge of night beat patrolling in the jurisdictional police station will get the message and a constable on duty at night will be told to pay extra attention to the house.

Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar and Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase opined that this facility will help the public and also keep police in the loop.
