Mangaluru: The weekend curfew imposed by the State Government from the night of Friday January 14 to the morning of Monday January 17 in response to the spread of Covid – 19 has been strictly enforced by the police in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi.

On Friday, 1,136 new Covid – 19 cases were reported in the two coastal districts. DK had 639 cases, whereas Udupi had 497.

Police officers are keeping a close eye on the roads to ensure that no vehicles or people are moving about unnecessarily.

According to sources, barricades have been erected at a number of places. The majority of the roads are deserted, and just a few buses with a small number of passengers are operating. Those who break curfew rules are penalised by the police in all places.
