Mangaluru: Reiterating the government’s stand that it wants to make business in India easier, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, that apart, the government has also realised the need for creating more and more entrepreneurs in India.

Addressing the gathering during the 75th anniversary of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mangaluru on Monday, Prabhu said that keeping in mind the two aspects, the government passed the Bankruptcy law in the Parliament.

“Most of the policies of the government have been aiming at allowing business and entrepreneurs grow,” he said.

With regard to railway development, he said that the government is dedicated to strengthen the railways and after having invested over Rs one lac crore during last year, another Rs one lac crore is being invested in high speed railways.

He said that the government also intends to form a joint venture company with Karnataka within next three months, specifically aiming at creating additional infrastructure.

As far as Konkan railway is concerned, he said that doubling of track is underway and also electrification of Konkan Railways is on.

“We intended to develop the railways here because we believe that our coast too is one of the best in the world. We want to utilise the potential of the coast to the maximum,” he said adding that while a Centre on Tunnel Technology will be set up in Goa, another named after former chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde will be set up in Udupi.

Prabhu, calling Mangaluru his second home, recalled the days when he used to frequent the port city.
