
Mangaluru: “The Saanidhya Special School for Mentally Challenged has organised a two-day programme titled, “Vision-2018″ to showcase the talent of special children as well as seek support for its ongoing projects”, said Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Administrator of Saanidhya.
Addressing a press meet at Press Club on March 8, Vasanth Kumar Shetty said, “As part of vision–2018, an arts and crafts exhibition has been arranged at Kadri Park on March 10 and 11 at around 5:30 PM, where the creations by the special children of the school will be on display”.
The programme will be inaugurated by Mukund Kamath, Proprietor of Ideal Ice-creams, Mangaluru. Yamuna D, District Disabled Welfare Officer, DK will be the chief guest.
On March 11, “Sanidhya Utsava”, a cultural programme has been organised, wherein the special school children will take part in a Yakshagana titled “Bhakta Prahlada” and a skit titled “Amma”, followed by a fashion show by the children of Sanidhya. The evening programme on March 11 will be inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director of Rural Development, Nitte University(Deemed). H R Nayak, Deputy Director in the Department of Horticulture, DK will preside, Edwin Castellino, Senior General Manager-Culinary Services MIS (P) Ltd, Bengaluru; Goutham Shetty, Chief Causality Medical officer in K S Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte and P B Abdul Hameed, Vice President of KCC will be the guests of honour, Vasanth Kumar added.
H V Gopalappa, Secretary, Shree Vinayaka Education Society, Davangere, Janardhana Spandana, Udupi, Narendra Shenoy, Proprietor of Laminframe Gallery, Santhosh Shetty, Proprietor of Anugraha Electricals, Champa, Home Guard will be felicitated on the occasion.
Vice President of Saanidhya M B Devadatta Rao, Treasurer Jagadish Shetty, Trustees B Nanda Kumar and Stephen Pinto were present during the press meet.
Work on Saanidhya Shashwatha, a permanent home for the mentally challenged is in progress and the institution looks for support from donors for early completion of the project.
Saanidhya Special School which started with mere two kids in 2003, now has a strength of over 159 mentally challenged children in its rolls. The residential school has over 50 teaching and non-teaching staff and is making relentless efforts to provide a platform for the mentally challenged children to enter the mainstream by encouraging their innate talents.
