Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Awards held in the city

Mangalore: The Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Awards organized by the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, Mangalore was held at TV Raman Pai Convention Hall on Saturday February 1.

The Awards were conferred to eminent Konkani writer Sheela Kolambkar, Konkani poet Madhav Borkar and Goa liberation movement leader and poet Nagesh Karmali.

Sheela Kolambkar was awarded Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Literary Award for her outstanding Konkani book of the year 2013, ‘Sheela Lekh’, a collection of Konkani essays, Madhav Borkar received the Poetry Award for his Konkani poetry book, ‘Symphony’, whereas the Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Nagesh Karamali for his marvelous service to Konkani language.
 
Kannada novelist Na D’Souza was present during the occasion and he addressed the audience.

The Chairman of Manipal Global Education Services T V Mohandas Pai addressing the gathering said that the award is instigating the tremendous work of these litterateurs; Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Literary Award set an example and encourages promoting the Konkani language and its culture.

Smitha Shenoy compered the programme. The president, Basti Vaman Shenoy delivered the welcome speech whereas Secretary Venkatesh N Baliga proposed a vote of thanks.
