Villagers panic as eight monkeys die in Tellaru

Karkala : There was panic among residents of Bobbala in Tellaru area of Karkala where eight monkeys were found dead on August 27, Tuesday.

Reports said the locals first noticed a dead monkey inside the compound of a house. Though it was said that the monkey which was loitering in the area since some days   was bitten by a pet dog and died of injuries, the tracing of seven more dead monkeys in the area the same day brought in some sense of fear among locals.

When the matter was brought  to the notice of the authorities, senior officials including  Subrahmanya Rao,Forest Officer,  Dr Krishnananda, Taluk Health officer, Dr Nagaraj Balegar, Director of Department of Animal Husbandry visited the area at the directive e of the local Tahsildar.

Dr Balegar has informed that a post mortem was conducted on the dead monkey but the cause of the death could not be confirmed.
