Mangaluru: The Pumpwell Circle flyover has become a butt of jokes, considerably so, since the work on the same is going at a pace much slower than that of a snail too. As the wait for the flyover, which was supposed to ease traffic woes for the people (but has only done the contrary) has completed nearly eight years now, a group of young men hit an innovative idea of celebrating eight years of the yet-to-be complete flyover.

The video which has gone viral on WhatsApp just highlights the sorry state of affairs in the region, as despite being an important junction – the major entry/exit of city – the spot witnesses huge traffic jams, as the construction work on the flyover has come to a standstill. In the video the gang is seen cutting a birthday cake besides smearing cake and giving birthday bumps to the pillars erected here.

The flyover project, part of Kundapur-Talapady highway widening had started in the year 2010. The project that was supposed to be complete by March 2013, as per the initial deadline given still remains a nightmare for the motorists who have to grapple with the huge traffic jams. A recent deadline of March 2018 too has remained unmet.
