Mangaluru: Condemning the brutal murder of right wing activist Deepak Rao, the members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal organised a “Rasta Roko” near Besant College here on January 5.
Addressing the gathering, VHP leader M B Puranik said that the Congress-led state government’s “anti-Hindu” attitude had led to the death of several Hindu activists. Just like the cattle are butchered, several Hindu activists are being killed in the district, he stated.
BJP leader Monappa Bhandary said after the Congress government assumed power in the state, several Hindu activists had been killed. Congress is interfering with police affairs and protecting antisocial elements, he opined.
He also alleged that state ministers Ramanth Rai and U T Khader were responsible for all the untoward incidents in the district.
Later, police detained all the protesters.
Protest in Udupi
A protest was also held by VHP, Bajrang Dal and BJP activists in Udupi. They formed a road blockade at Triveni Circle on January 5, in protest of the murder of Hindu activist Deepak Rao at Katipalla, Surathkal in the Dakshina Kannada district.
The protesters accused the state government of the failing law and order situation and for taking advantage of the communal disharmony in the region.
The protesters were later arrested and taken to Chandu Maidan near here.
