Vedike gears up for district bundh; urges people to maintain peace

Mangaluru: After a successful protest on Monday, Netravati Rakshana Samyukta Vedike is now gearing up for Dakshina Kannada bundh on May 19.

Vedike President Vijay Kumar Shetty in a press conference on Tuesday said that the bandh has been called by the people of Dakshina Kannada and it has already gained the support of educational institutions and unions of the region.

However, medicals, hospitals, ambulance, water supply, milk and other necessary services will remain functional as usual.

Shetty requested general public to resort to peaceful means of protest and not turn violent. “Even though the top political leaders of DK are not supporting it, the bundh still be a successful,” Shetty said adding that District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai is wasting time by making contradicting statements every now and then.

“Rai is afraid of losing his chair. It is evident by the way he has been behaving,” said Shetty.

Vedike Members M G Hegde, Satyajith Surathkal, Tulu Rakshana Vedike President Yogesh Shetty, Raghuveer Suterpete and others were present.
