Bantwal: The Founder President of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (CAMPCO), Varanasi Subraya Bhat, passed away on Friday December 27.He breathed his last at  his residence in Adyanadka in Bantwal taluk in the wee hours of Friday due to age related health issues.  He is survived by two sons and two daughters.

Bhat had founded  the CAMPCO  factory in 1973 at Puttur and was a well-known  co-operative leader. CAMPCO came into being at a time when areca growers were at a loss due to a sharp fall in prices.

The CAMPCO chocolate factory at Puttur is South India’s only such factory and the country’s second chocolate factory in the cooperative sector.
